Arranging a Funeral
Funerals are a very personal way to say goodbye. At Vaudin’s we will work with you to ensure you have the type of funeral you or your loved one would like. We offer a choice and are prepared to go the extra mile.
“There is no dress rehearsal for such an event”. Of course, if you do not wish to have a funeral,
again, we will meet your requirement with respect and dignity.
This page will layout the basics of arranging a funeral and outline the main aspects you may want to consider. More information can be found in the Vaudin's Funeral Booklet.
Things to consider:
Does the person who has died have a will or funeral plan? They may have expressed their wishes in either of these documents. If not, it would be best to think about the options below:
Would you/they like a burial or cremation?
Type of Service
Religious Service - All faiths can be accommodated for
Non-Religious - Secular life centred ceremony
Civil Service - A mix of both of the above
No Service - Where the remains are taken for burial or cremation
Venue
The place to hold the service: Church, Crematorium, Hall or cemetery. The funeral director will advise you of where this can be held.
Music
Music is very emotive and reflects on the persons’ life. In church services, hymns are sung as part of the service. At the back of this guide, you will see a list of both hymns and favourite secular music played at funerals.
Service Sheets
A service sheet has two advantages. It allows you to follow the service and is also a keepsake for yourself and attendees. They can be printed with or without pictures and photos.
Flowers
There are various options when it comes to flowers, and we will direct you with your choices.
Donations
Usually sent in place of flowers, often would go to a charity of choice.
Mourners Cars
On the day of the funeral, you may wish to be taken to the service. A selection of options are available.
Coffin
Again there are many choices, some of which are illustrated on the back of this booklet. All of our stock coffins are Forest Stewardship Council approved.
Funeral announcement
Is to notify family and friends of the death and funeral arrangements. The funeral director will guide you on how this will be written. You may have already done it yourself; however, the Guernsey Press will only receive the notice from a funeral firm. At Vaudin’s we also offer to publish this notice on our Facebook page, to ensure a wider audience receives it, unlike the Guernsey Press, this is a free service.
